Allantonin:  A natural, non-toxic compound with demonstrated moisturizing, anti-irritating and soothing properties. It is also an effective cell-proliferating and healing agent that stimulates good tissue formation and cell regeneration. Allantonin is found in our Dermal Nutrition Antioxidant (DNA) Repair Cream.

Argireline® (Acetyl Hexapeptide-8): A safe, non-toxic, peptide alternative to Botox® that has been proven effective in reducing wrinkles and preventing the formation of new lines in a safe and natural manner. Argireline® inhibits two internal processes that strongly contribute to the formation of wrinkles. The first is the SNARE complex, a natural formation of proteins in aging skin that stimulate neurotransmitters, provoking facial muscle contractions and thereby causing wrinkles and lines. The second is the overproduction and release of catecholamines such as adrenaline, which affect the sympathetic nervous system and cause wrinkles through repetitive facial movements.By inhibiting both these processes, existing wrinkles diminish and new lines are never formed. Ascorbyl glucoside is converted into L-ascorbic acid within the skin over a prolonged period (up to 72 hours), providing all the benefits of Vitamin C to the skin cells and tissues in a constant and sustained manner. Ascorbyl glucoside delivers significant antioxidant protection, increased collagen synthesis, and a decrease in melanin production for firmer-looking, more even toned skin. Biowhite™ (Saxifrage, Grape, Mulberry, Skullcap Extracts): A combination of plant extracts found to inhibit the enzyme tyrosinase, resulting in a very high depigmentation effect for lighter and brighter skin. Bodyfensine™ (Acetyl Dipeptide-3 Aminohexanoate): B-defensins are small molecule peptides naturally found in the skin that protect against invasion of harmful microbes. Production of these protective peptides slows with age, causing an increase in skin aging and irritation. Bodyfensine™ has been clinically proven to stimulate production of B-defensines, enhancing the skin’s natural defense mechanism and thus promoting a more youthful appearance. Bodyfensine™ is found in our Dermal Nutrition Antioxidant (DNA) Repair Cream.

DMAE Amine: Fast-acting, skin firming ingredient that is believed to stimulate small muscle contractions, leading to tighter, firmer skin with a less wrinkled appearance. Although it may have a medicinal aroma, this quickly dissipates after a few minutes. DMAE Amine is one of the few anti-aging actives that can produce results within days, although effects accumulate over time. SBD uses a concentration of 4% to ensure results achieved in clinical trials. DMAE Amine is found in our Firm Control Serum.

Eyeseryl™ (Acetyl Tetrapeptide-5): Patented peptide specifically designed to improve the appearance of the entire eye area by decreasing eyelid and undereye puffiness and bags. Clinical studies show that Eyeseryl ™ effectively drained excess fluid retention (edema) in the eye area and further reduced the appearance of bags and dark circles caused by poor lymphatic circulation and leaking capillaries. Eyeseryl™ is found in Lighen Up Eye Serum.

Geranium (Pelargonium graveolens) Essential Oil: An adaptogenic oil found to regulate sebum, balancing both dry and oily areas of the skin. Found in our Total Balance Cleanser.

Gigawhite™ (Mallow, Peppermint, Primula, Lady’s Mantle, Speedwell, Mint Balm, Yarrow Extracts): Patented skin lightener and brightener as well as an age spot and melasma reducer. Its patented combination of seven organically grown Swiss plant-based extracts work by means of an ultra gentle mechanism of melanocyte decreasing action. It has a significant skin whitening and free radical scavenging ability and works very well at suppressing and eliminating concentrated melanin when used for a duration of 12 weeks. Its composition is a host of effective antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, skin lightening extracts which penetrate the skin extremely well. All extracts have the ability to inhibit tyrosinase, the enzyme responsible for the production of melanin or skin pigment. These extracts are combined in a proprietary and synergistic ratio to maximize their activity and produce an even more effective compound. Haloxyl™ (Hydroxysuccinimide, Chrysin, Palmitoyl Oligopeptide, Palmitoyl Tetrapeptide-7): Peptide complex designed to absorb and eliminate blood pigments responsible for dark circles under the eyes. Shadows and “dark circles” under the eye area are casued by an accumulation of hemoglobin and coloured degradation products (biliverdin, bilirubin and iron) in the dermis and epidermis. Chrysin stimulates an enzyme responsible for the clearance of bilirubin. Hydroxysuccinimide makes the iron soluble, allowing it to be eliminated. In a study, 22 female volunteers applied Haloxyl to the eye area for 56 days, resulting in a 70% reduction in under eye dark circles. Haloxyl™ is found in our Lighten Up Eye Serum.

Hyaluronic Acid: A major component of the skin, binds up to 1000 times its weight in moisture to skin and hair. Increases barrier function and collagen production in the skin, boosting elasticity and smoothing the appearance of lines and wrinkles. For hair, it increases strand strength and pliability, and reduces frizz. All SBD serums and creams contain Hyaluronic Acid.

Lactic Acid: Derived from sour milk and fermented fruits and vegetables, the benefits of Lactic Acid are two-fold: it gently exfoliates the skin’s surface while acting as a humectant to increase water content of the epidermis. Together, these actions smooth the skin’s surface by first exfoliating and initiating cell turnover, and then plumping up the skin’s barrier for increased hydration and youthful pliability. Lactic acid is found in our Refining Micro-Peel Pads.

Lavender Essential Oil (Lavandula angustifolia): Fragrant Lavender Essential Oil, a distillate from the flowers of the lavender plant, calms, soothes, balances and hydrates skin. Lavender Essential Oil is found in our Micro-Encapsulated Moisture Serum.

Lavender (Lavandula angustifolia) Hydrosol: Fragrant Lavender Hydrosol, a byproduct of the distillation of lavender flowers, calms, soothes and hydrates. Lavender Hydrosol is found in our Micro-Encapsulated Moisture Serum and Firm Control Serum.

Leuphasyl® (Pentapeptide-18): A new peptide that supports the wrinkle reducing action of Argireline® by reducing nerve cell activity and muscle contractions from repeated facial expressions. As these actions are “turned down,” muscle contractions relax and expression wrinkles are diminished. Because Leuphasyl® targets the wrinkle-formation mechanism of expression wrinkles in a new way, it is complentary in products also containing other wrinkle reduction peptides, such as Argireline®. Loquat Leaf (Eriobotrya Japonica) Extract: Subtropical flower with potent antioxidant and soothing properties similar to green tea. Found in our Hydrating Cleanser.

Magnesium Ascorbyl Phosphate: Highly stable, highly concentrated and non-irritating form of Vitamin C. Converts to L-ascorbic acid once it penetrates the skin to deliver antioxidant protection, increased collagen synthesis, and a decrease in melanin production for firmer-looking, more even toned skin. Anti-inflammatory. Dramatically reduces the free radicals that result from UV irradiation of the skin, thus significantly reducing cell damage and photo-aging. By promoting collagen synthesis, magnesium ascorbyl phosphate also plays an important role in the structure and firmness of the skin, which means it is highly beneficial for improving wrinkles and any roughness. Mandelic Acid: Derived from bitter almonds, Mandelic Acid is found to visibly help a wide range of skin conditions including hyperpigmentation, dark spots, wrinkles and acne. Due to its larger molecular structure this AHA penetrates into the skin at a slower rate than glycolic acid, for thorough exfoliation with less irritation. Mandelic Acid is found in our Refining Micro-Peel Pads.

Marine Filling Spheres™: (Sodium Chondroitin Sulfate, Atelocollagen): Dehydrated collagen and glycosaminoglycans microspheres penetrate and swell 10 times their volume in the presence of water, immediately filling in the look of lines and wrinkles. Marine Filling Spheres™ effectively reduce small wrinkles in one hour (in vivo data). These microspheres are also very good moisturizers because, after remaining in the hollow of the wrinkle, they are eventually degraded by enzymes and slowly release the water initially taken up, providing an ongoing reservoir of skin smoothing hydration. Matrixyl® 3000 (Palmitoyl Oligopeptide & Palmitoyl Tetrapeptide-7): Two synergistic lipopeptides which lead to the synthesis of new collagen, while repairing the matrix and epidermis. Stimulates fibroblast cells in the skin, enabling them to significantly reduce the appearance of wrinkles. In clinical trials, Matrixyl® 3000, achieved a 33% decrease in wrinkle density, 23% decrease in the volume of wrinkles, and a 20% decrease in the depth of wrinkles. Found in our Dermal Nutrition Antioxidant (DNA) Repair Cream, Time Reversal Eye Cream, and Time Rewind Anti-Wrinkle Serum (Natural Botox Alternative).

Melanostatin-5 (Aqua-Dextran-Nonapeptide-1): Skin brightening peptide which counterbalances the formation of melanin and the synthesis of tyrosinase, a key enzyme involved in the process of pigmentation. By blocking these processes, the result is prevention and lightening of discoloration in the skin. Melanostatin-5 is found in our Perfectly Spotless Serum.

Organic Grape (Vitis vinifera) Alcohol: Derived from organically grown fermented grapes. Acts as a natural binding agent to keep ingredients blended and stable, and accelerates absorption of exfoliating acids while quickly evaporating away to avoid drying the skin.

Oxidoreductases (Soy Peptides, Hydrolyzed Rice Bran Extract): Patented peptide complex clinically shown to inhibit enzymes that degrade connective tissue, thereby improving blood supply to the area. A significant reduction in blood clotting and inflammation was found, reducing the appearance of dark circles puffiness in the eye area. Found in Lighten Up Eye Serum.

Panthenol: A highly penetrating moisturizer which absorbs into the skin and hair and is converted into Pantothenic Acid, a B vitamin. Assists skin and hair in retaining water and also acts as a humectant by absorbing water from the air, aiding in skin and hair moisturization. Increased skin hydration plumps fine lines and wrinkles for a more youthful appearance. Found in Micro-Encapsulated Moisture Serum and Dermal Nutrition Antioxidant (DNA) Repair Cream.

Renovage™ (teprenone): Works with telomeres, the “caps” found on strands of DNA, which shorten over time, resulting in lines, wrinkles and sagging of the skin. Renovage is clinically proven to support longer life span of the telomeres, increasing DNA repair and cell function, and boosting skin barrier function, for skin that acts — and looks — like firmer, plumper, more radiantly youthful skin. Clinical studies show that after just 4 weeks of Renovage™ use, skin hydration, elasticity and firmness had increased by 45%. Lines, wrinkles, roughness and redness were also reduced. Resveratrol: An antimicrobial substance produced by plants in response to stress, infection, or strong UV radiation. In recent years, resveratrol has become the subject of intense interest due to its powerful antioxidant and anti-aging properties. It appears that resveratrol exerts its potent antioxidant effects on two distinct levels: (1) by scavenging existing free radicals and (2) by preventing their formation.The antioxidant ability of resveratrol is known to be both potent and efficient, being greater than that of vitamins E and C.

One study demonstrated that resveratrol was 95% efficient at preventing lipid peroxidation, compared to 65% for vitamin E and 37% for vitamin C. In another recent study, the antioxidant strength of resveratrol was compared to that of idebenone. Idebenone is a powerful pharmaceutical antioxidant. Its benefits include shielding the skin from environmental damage, improving the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles, reducing dryness, and smoothing skin texture. The results of the study revealed that resveratrol had a stunning 17-fold greater antioxidant capacity than idebenone.

The antioxidant properties of resveratrol protects against and inhibits UV skin damage and abnormal cellular proliferation caused by UV rays.Resveratrol is also able to form soluble, complex molecules with certain metal ions, inactivating the ions so they cannot produce free radical formation. This action, in combination with its powerful antioxidant capability, makes resveratrol highly effective in combating the damaging effect of free radicals that leads to skin aging. Resveratrol also stimulates healthy cell proliferation as well as collagen synthesis by protecting the dermal matrix from harmful enzymes and improving the function of fibroblasts that create healthy collagen, leading to plumper, firmer skin.

Rose Hip Seed Oil (Rosa Rubiginosa): A natural anti-inflammatory essential oil rich in vitamin C. Very hydrating, softening and nourishing for the skin. Found in Hydrating Cleanser

Seamollient® (Algae Extract): Derived from sea plants, Seamollient® binds moisture. Improves feel, texture and softness of both skin and hair with sustained hydration. Keeps skin looking firmer, and hair smooth and shiny. Seamollient® is found in our Micro-Encapsulated Moisture Serum.

Sodium PCA: A naturally occurring component of human skin and a part of the “natural moisturizing factors” (NMF) that maintain a healthy epidermis. Sodium PCA is very effective humectant, which means that it attracts moisture from the air and binds it to skin and hair for improved hydration. Sodium PCA is found in our Dermal Nutrition Antioxidant (DNA) Repair Cream.

Stabilized Oxygen (Sodium Chlorate, Trace Minerals):  Oxygen is necessary for cellular rejuvenation, but if unstable, can create free radicals and further damage to the skin. This highly stabilized form of oxygen helps reduce redness, irritation, discoloration and breakouts through its anti-bacterial and skin calming action. It penetrates deep into skin layers to help promotes absorption of nutrients and boosts cellular renewal. Found in Skin Rescue Oxygen Treatment.

SYN®-AKE: (Dipeptide Diaminobutyroyl Benzylamide Diacetate): Mimics the muscle contraction inhibiting action of snake venom. Clinical studies show a targeting of neuromuscular activity, slowing down reaction and reducing lines and wrinkles that form from repeated facial expression. Salicylic Acid 2%: A gently exfoliating beta-hydroxy acid (BHA) derived from willow tree bark. Sodium Olivate: A natural, botanical cleansing agent derived from the salt of olive oil. High in skin nourishing vitamins, minerals and antioxidants. Found in our Hydrating Cleanser.

Superfruit Complex (Pomegranate, Cranberry, Raspberry, Blueberry Extracts): A group of “super” fruits each known for their extremely high antioxidant content. This powerful blend counteracts the effects of free radical damage, UV exposure, and other environmental damage that can lead to aging. Found in our Skin Rescue Oxygen Treatment.

Tamarind (Tamarindus Indica Seed) Extract: High in natural skin hydrating polysaccharides. Shown to significantly improve elasticity, smoothing away the look of wrinkles and lines, and improving skin’s barrier function. Found in our Gentle Daily Peel.

Tea Tree Oil (Melaleuca alternifolia): Extremely effective in reducing the occurrence of breakout. Has pore cleansing properties that help reduce clogged pores and blemish-related irritation. Found in our Total Balance Cleanser.

Zemea™ (Propanediol): An all-natural, GMO free, corn derived alternative to traditional petroleum based glycols such as propylene glycol (1,2-propanediol), or butylene glycol (1,3-butanediol). It provides all of the benefits of traditional glycols – humectant, solvent, emollient – without the irritancy or potential toxicity.
